From the recording Banks of the Gila
I wrote this in a hotel room in Washington, DC--which is amusing to me since it is about a river in New Mexico! While in DC, I realized that the deadline for the Gila River Festival songwriting competition was approaching. Nothing like a little pressure to get the job done! I had a little travel guitar with me and came up with this song. I was fortunate to win first prize in the contest.
