I wrote this in a hotel room in Washington, DC. I found that amusing as it's about a river in New Mexico! I was in DC and realized the deadline for the songwriting contest for the Gila River Festival was approaching, so I sat down with travel guitar and this is what came out. I was fortunate to win first prize for this song. This same song was also a songwriting contest finalist at the Tucson Folk Festival a few months later. It's not on an album yet, but I expect that it will be included on the upcoming Wally/Brandie CD, along with some harmonies from her (not on this version).
